General Impression

With the re-arrangement of airlines at Heathrow's terminals, Terminal 1 (and the future Heathrow East terminal) has become a Star Alliance hub terminal. With United Airlines, South African Airways and Air New Zealand joining Heathrow resident airline BMI, this new lounge opened in early summer of 2008. It is located in the space vacated by the British Airways' lounge.

The lounge is divided in two parts, with a first class area and a Gold members area. Both have their own "feeding stations". The offering is detailed below, but the design is similar to that in the new terminal 1 Star Alliance Arrivals Lounge.

Food and Beverages

A generous snack bar is offered with a selection of cooked and salad items throughout the day.

• fresh sandwiches
• fresh salads (green leaf, potato salad, prawn salad, for example)
• warm soup
• additional freshly prepared snacks (smoked mackerel fillets, for example)
• bean-to-cup coffee and a selection of teas
• boxed cereals, muesli and granola
• various milks and yoghurts for the above (breakfast)
• prepacked cereal and muesli bars, flapjacks (breakfast)
• fresh fruit

Beverages include

• Spirits including Smirnoff, Famous Grouse, Jamesons, Jack Daniels, Cockburns, Southern Comfort
• Grolsch lager on draught
• grapefruit, orange and cloudy apple juice
• 330ml cans of Coca-Cola and Diet Coke
• 500ml bottles of still and sparkling water

Showers and Spa

Nice showers with body-spray jets. The shower rooms are small and short on space to place your clothes, but functional. There are also showers in the Star Alliance Arrivals lounge.
